Alaskan from the age of 2, Kara grew up in
south Anchorage, attending Grace Christian School. She completed her
undergraduate education at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan,
graduating with a degree in Exercise Science in 2005. Kara continued
her education at Washington University in St. Louis and graduated
with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2008. She moved
back to Anchorage in May of 2008, excited to begin her career in her
hometown.
In addition to her Doctorate of Physical
Therapy degree, Kara is a Certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist and a Credentialed Clinical Instructor for physical
therapy students through the American Physical Therapy Association.
She has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association
for several years, joining the Orthopedic and Sports sections
in 2008. Kara is also a member of the National Strength and
Conditioning Association. In June of 2011, Kara became a junior
partner at Rebound Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy, LLC and
took on the added role of South Clinic Supervisor. Her areas of
interest in physical therapy include wellness, ACL injury
prevention, orthopedics, sports, and post-surgical rehabilitation.
An athlete her whole life, Kara continues to
participate in recreational sports such as flag football,
volleyball, and slow-pitch softball as an adult. In the past several
years, she has participated in many running events such as the
Mayor’s Midnight Sun Half Marathon (2009), the Lost Lake Breath of
Life Race (2008, 2010, and 2011) and the Marine Corps Marathon
(2010). Kara also enjoys hiking, cross-country skiing, yoga, and
indoor rock climbing.
Kara’s treatment philosophy for physical
therapy is exercise-based, with a strong emphasis on correcting
movement impairments and restoring function through guided
activities. She believes that strengthening with proper alignment
and mechanics leads to an improved quality of movement and decreased
pain. Kara’s primary goal in her practice is to provide
compassionate, effective care in order to assist patients in living
life to the fullest. |
