Laura grew up in small-town Illinois, one hour
east of St. Louis, MO. She received her undergraduate education at
the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign, graduating with a
Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology in 2005. She then attended the
Washington University in St. Louis Program in Physical Therapy, and
graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2008. She
visited Anchorage for the first time in February 2008 and, like many
others, decided to make it her home. She moved to Anchorage in May
2008.
In addition to her Doctorate of Physical
Therapy degree, Laura is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist and a Credentialed Clinical Instructor for students
through the American Physical Therapy Association. She is an active
member of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Orthopedic and
Sports sections, as well as a member of the National Strength and
Conditioning Association. In November of 2011, Laura became a junior
partner at Rebound Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy, LLC and
acts as Rebound’s Coordinator for Clinical Education. Her areas of
interest in physical therapy include general orthopedics, sports,
ACL injury prevention, community education, and post-surgical
rehabilitation.
Outside of work, Laura is an active member of
the Anchorage sports community, participating in adult recreational
sports such as flag football, slow-pitch softball, and basketball. When Laura is not playing organized sports, she enjoys
Alaska’s many trails through hiking, biking, and cross-country
skiing and has participated in the Lost Lake Breath of Life Race
every year since 2009. In the fall, Laura can also be found at South
Anchorage High School where she coaches flag football.
Laura’s treatment philosophy is exercise-based
with a strong emphasis on specific corrections of movement and
muscle balance impairments. Laura believes that strengthening with
proper alignment and mechanics leads to improved movement and less
pain. Her primary goal as a physical therapist is to improve her
patients’ quality of life with compassionate and evidence-based
care. |
